DEREK THOMSON will be in his element at Sandown this afternoon interviewing all the Z list celebrities who turn up at the races At The Races is a British television channel, originally co-founded with Channel 4, but now owned by a partnership between British Sky Broadcasting, Arena Leisure PLC and 28 (out of the 59) UK racecourses.  in the name of charity for Variety Club Day.

Kato from the Pink Panther movies is 1.1 to turn up for the day and the ghost of Ernie Wise Ernest Wiseman OBE (November 27, 1925 – March 21, 1999), better known by his stage name of Ernie Wise, was an English comedian, best known as one half of the comedy duo Morecambe and Wise, who became an institution on British television, especially for their Christmas  will definitely be present at the popular London venue.

There will be no shortage of cringeworthy one liners for those watching on C4 and the prospect of that is too much for me and I will be hiding down at Newton Abbot for their big weekend.

Hayley Turner will be a popular winner on Varety Club Day and I think she has a real good chance of success on THE WHICH DOCTOR (3.15) in the heritage handicap.

I have watched this horse most of the season and though it has done well at a mile it has always looked like a ten furlong horse to me. Connections tried it over this trip at Goodwood and were obviously unsure as to whether this was the right move as it was given a very conservative ride which seemed unnecessary given how well he ended up staying on in a hot race.

If anything he is in a slightly better race this afternoon but I feel this four year old could show some improvement over this trip.

Fanjura has won his last two for Barry Hills and has the relatively unusual booking of Frankie Dettori for this yard which will catch a lot of eyes. He is well drawn in stall 16 and though he certainly won't be any value given the jockey booking, he is a real danger.

Jim Goldie has finally hit form and his Nanton ran a blinder for Scotland in the Ebor earlier this week and he has a rare Sandown runner in this race. Hillview Boy is not out of this race either as he was reasonably impressive last time out at Doncaster and has been put up in some quarters as a likely type for the Cambridgeshire in a few weeks. The worry for me is that his improvement came on soft ground and he might be better with give underfoot which looks most unlikely this weekend. At present there are seventeen declared for this event and if they all line up I think THE WHICH DOCTOR is definitely worth a few quid each way.

It will be a brave man who bets against STRAWBERRYDAIQUIRI (2.10) in the opener after the way this filly has improved on its last three starts. A smooth win over course and distance was followed up by a comfortable success in a higher grade affair at Ascot last time out where Ryan Moore oozed confidence. After that race the jockey who is difficult to prise a word out of was positively verbose Wordy; long winded. The term is often used as a switch to display the status of some operation. For example, a /v might mean "verbose mode."  with the Press about the regard and confidence he had in this filly and with her rivals being seriously exposed she is taken to get many once a year punters at Sandown off to a flyer.

The Chester card kicks off with a competitive sprint handicap where as ever the draw is of vital importance at this sharpest of tracks. While it may not have got things absolutely perfect stall four is still probably good enough to give SUPERMASSIVE MUSE (2.25) its first real chance for a long time. This horse paid the price for a good run in handicaps last season and has struggled with big weights and bad draws all year. However the handicapper hand·i·cap·per

and Group winner Knot In Wood and over six furlongs he was doing all his best work at the death. He would clearly appreciate this step up to seven furlongs this afternoon and has been lucky with the draw bagging stall four. This is a well handicapped horse on that evidence and though the big Newmarket names all have runners as well as Irish challengers, he should see them off or at least get in the frame.
