 DNAP REPORTS VEGISNAX DISTRIBUTION EXPANSION
BOTH AT RETAIL AND WITH MCDONALD'S
CINNAMINSON, N.J., May 11 /PRNewswire/ -- DNA Plant Technology Corporation (NASDAQ: DNAP) said today that the marketing of VegiSnax(R) vegetables will be expanded to supermarkets, and other segments of the retail and food service trade in the Denver marketing area. In addition, VegiSnax brand carrots will be test-marketed in the 100 Denver-area McDonald's restaurants. VegiSnax vegetables are proprietary fresh produce products being commercialized by FreshWorld, DNAP's joint venture with Du Pont.
DNAP said that in conjunction with the launch, FreshWorld will commence a multimedia advertising campaign, including television, presenting the superior tasting vegetables as a fun, healthy snack.
"After the successful introduction of our proprietary carrots and celery sticks into supermarkets in the Pacific Northwest, as well as approximately 500 McDonald's restaurants in such regions as Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., this is an important expansion of our program," said Richard Laster, chairman of DNAP. "Our strategy in the Denver area is to have the broadest market exposure, and the product will be available through retail and restaurant outlets as well as through food service outlets in hospitals and school cafeterias. We believe the very appealing advertising campaign we will launch promoting VegiSnax as a fun food -- that is, a 100 percent natural, good tasting, nutritional snack -- will significantly increase consumer awareness of the product and sales." VegiSnax vegetables offer a distinctly superior taste and longer shelf life than any other commercially available produce. The VegiSnax concept includes special handling and packaging to produce fresh, good-tasting, low-calorie, nutritional snacking vegetables.
DNAP is a leading agricultural biotechnology company, applying a spectrum of technologies to develop and commercialize plant-based products, agricultural and environmental diagnostics, and ice modification products and processes for industrial and consumer markets. The company has three operating joint ventures -- FreshWorld, InterMountain Canola Company, and Agri-Diagnostics Associates.
