DNA TESTS ORDERED ON SLAYING SUSPECT.

DNA tests were ordered from a Las Vegas Las Vegas (läs vā`gəs), city (1990 pop. 258,295), seat of Clark co., S Nev.; inc. 1911. Higgins had scratches on his face when he was arrested April 7 in Laughlin, Nev., Wojdak said.

When Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies went to Cummings' home the next day, they found Cummings' badly beaten body. Wojdak said Cummings was also stabbed.

Higgins was then booked on suspicion of murder.

The couple told police Higgins duped them out of $1,000 cash and credit card charges and stole a family heirloom, an $8,000 mandolin mandolin (măn'dəlĭn`, măn`dəlĭn'), musical instrument of the lute family, with a half-pear-shaped body, a fretted neck, and a variable number of strings, plucked with the fingers or with a plectrum. , Las Vegas police have said.

Higgins is charged with robbery, two counts of possessing someone else's ATM cards with intent to defraud, grand theft of ATM cards and three counts of burglary.

Higgins, who is being held without bail at Los Angeles County Jail, used to tend bar for Up th' Hill, a La Crescenta pub Cummings owned.
