DMX FOR BUSINESS TEAMS UP WITH MSOs TO CAPTURE 10,000 ACCOUNTS BY YEAR-END; CABLE SYSTEMS HIT DIGITAL COMMERCIAL MUSIC SERVICE MILESTONE

ANAHEIM, Calif., Dec. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Digital Music Express (DMX) for Business, the leading cable-delivered commercial digital audio service in North America, will sign its 10,000th commercial account by the end of 1993, just two years after the service was first introduced, International Cablecasting Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: TUNE) (ICT(R)) Chairman Jerry Rubinstein, announced yesterday at the Western Cable Show.
DMX for Business' rapid success is attributed to its acquiring virtually the same sales penetration in markets where available as the leading competitive services have acquired in over 60 years. These competitor shift-outs represent nearly 20 percent of the DMX for Business account base.
In addition, DMX for Business is significantly broadening the commercial music marketplace served by cable. By attracting unsold businesses as First-Time Users (FTUs) of a commercial music service, 80 percent of DMX for Business commercial customers are new FTU accounts representing significant penetration into the approximate 7.3 million businesses nationwide which are not subscribers to a professionally programmed commercial music service.
"We are extremely pleased with the success DMX for Business has enjoyed in the short time we've been offering the service, given the cable industry's accessibility to the commercial marketplace," commented Lon Troxel, ICT's commercial division president. Troxel continued, "Only 20 percent or less of the commercial market is currently served directly by cable, however with the advent of digital Direct Broadcast Satellite (DBS), DMX for Business and its cable affiliates will be able to serve virtually 100 percent of commercial establishments via their own roof-mounted, 30-inch satellite dish and receiver system. As the only cable-delivered commercial music service providing digital quality, convenience, and a vast selection of music programming, DMX for Business represents an outstanding opportunity for the cable industry to continue to make inroads into the commercial market."
DMX for Business can currently be heard throughout North America, in a wide variety of businesses ranging from the luxurious Ritz Carlton Hotel in Aspen, Colo., to several Hyatt, Hilton and Marriott properties nationwide. Other DMX for Business accounts include a multitude of commercial establishments from Tony Roma's in Dallas to numerous McDonald's restaurants, as well as virtually hundreds of retail stores from Benetton in Pittsburgh to JCPenney in Tulsa, Okla. In addition, DMX for Business is being enjoyed at the Daytona Beach International Airport, Pittsburgh's Three-Rivers Stadium, the University of Iowa Hospital, Denver's United Artists Theater, and at health clubs, hair and tanning salons everywhere.
Launched in early 1992, DMX for Business currently offers 30 channels of uninterrupted, commercial-free, CD-quality stereo music programming delivered via cable. With DBS availability, the programming line-up will expand to at least 60 channels in the spring of 1994.
Publicly traded on NASDAQ/NMS (TUNE), ICT is backed by some of the cable industry's leading players, including Tele-Communications Inc. (TCI); Scientific-Atlanta; Viacom; KBLCOM; Colony Communications; Century Communications Corp.; Crown Media Inc.; and Shaw Communications Inc. of Canada.
