DMTF Advances Standards at the Management Developers Conference.

Attendees of Top Developer Event View New Technology Releases and Demonstrations from the Leader in Distributed Management Standards

SANTA CLARA Santa Clara, city, Cuba
Santa Clara (sän`tä klä`rä), city (1994 est. pop. 217,000), capital of Villa Clara prov., central Cuba.
, Calif. -- The Distributed Management Task Force Distributed Management Task Force (DMTF, formerly "Desktop Management Task Force") is a standards organisation that develops and maintains standards for systems management of IT environments in enterprises and the Internet. , Inc. (DMTF (Distributed Management Task Force, Inc., Portland, OR, www.dmtf.org) An industry consortium founded in 1992 that is involved with the development, support and maintenance of management standards for PCs. Its goal is to reduce the cost and complexity of PC management. [R]), the industry organization leading the development, adoption and promotion of interoperable management initiatives and standards, today announced new milestones and highlighted details of its broad participation in the Management Developers Conference (MDC (1) (Mobile Daughter Card) See riser card.

), being held December 4-7, 2006, in Santa Clara, Calif. Continuing its breakthrough work in delivering the critical standards that enable vendor-independent, end-to-end system and network management, this week the DMTF will unveil the latest in systems, server and Web services management standards; host interoperability events; and provide numerous educational sessions to the management industry.

The DMTF's significant advances are apparent at MDC with today's announcements of the latest technology releases from the organization, including the Systems Management Architecture for Server Hardware The Systems Management Architecture for Server Hardware (SMASH) is a suite of specifications that deliver industry standard protocols to increase productivity of the management of a data center.  (SMASH) 1.0 specification, which completes the DMTF's total server management solution, as well as the WS-CIM specification, which enables management via today's Web services infrastructure. In addition, the DMTF also announced the release of SMBIOS SMBIOS System Management BIOS  2.5, which addresses how motherboard and system vendors present management information about their products in a standard format. These latest releases, along with the organization's other critical standards - including the Common Information Model (CIM (1) (Computer-Integrated Manufacturing) Integrating office/accounting functions with automated factory systems. Point of sale, billing, machine tool scheduling and supply ordering are part of CIM. ) and Web-Based Enterprise Management (standard, system management) Web-Based Enterprise Management - (WBEM) A DMTF management standard using the Common Information Model to represent systems, applications, networks, devices and other managed components; developed to unify the management of distributed computing  (WBEM (Web-Based Enterprise Management) An umbrella term for using Internet technologies to manage systems and networks throughout the enterprise. Both browsers and applications can be used to access the information that is made available in formats such as HTML and ) - streamline integration and reduce costs by enabling multi-vendor interoperability in management systems for the data center and beyond.

As part of the MDC agenda, the DMTF's Common Diagnostic Model (CDM 1. CDM - Content Data Model
2. CDM - Code Division Multiplexing
) and SMASH Forums will host plugfests to further the interoperability of these standards. These in-depth, private technical events will help refine and validate the tools to be used in the groups' forthcoming conformance testing and certification programs.

In addition, the DMTF's standards are playing a lead role in numerous educational sessions, with developer-oriented sessions from the DMTF featured in the following MDC conference tracks: the Common Diagnostic Model (CDM), Web Services, Server Management, Storage Management, Developer, Developer Tools, and Grid and Networking.

"The DMTF's significant progress is evident at MDC this week, where key new technology advances are on display," said Winston Bumpus, president, DMTF. "By providing the key standards that form the foundation for managing everything from servers to storage to Web services, the DMTF continues to aggressively meet the evolving needs of the industry, and we're pleased to highlight these advances to the developer community at this event."

About the DMTF
