DIVERSITY IS FOCUS ON MLK DAY.

NEWHALL -- They broke bread together, then they sang and remembered the nation's most famous civil rights leader.

Two hundred people attended an event for the late Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday at Hart High School Hart High School may refer to:
  • Hart High School — Newhall, California
  • Hart High School — Hart, Michigan
  • Hart County High School — Munfordville, Kentucky
  • Hart County High School — Hartwell, Georgia
 in Newhall.

Among them was Eunice Villatoro, who was dressed in colorful Mayan clothes with a headband and offered pan dulce from Guatemala.

What was the significance of King to her?

``He brought us all together,'' said Villatoro, a Gas Co. worker.

``Because now we understand different cultures ... You have to understand that everyone is so different, and unique and he embraced us all together. His ideas, not him but his ideas.''

Participants got to taste bread from different cultures in the lobby of the Hart High auditorium before taking their seats for the ceremony.
