DIV. XII PLAYOFFS NOTEBOOK: VASQUEZ TO GET TOUGHEST TEST AGAINST V.C.Byline: Gideon Rubin Staff Writer ACTON - The Vasquez High football team has already shattered the school's single-season victory record with eight wins (the previous mark was five) and exceeded the team's victory total for the past three years. The Mustangs (8-3), who are coming off their first playoff victory in school history - a 22-15 Southern Section Div. XII upset win on the road against Mammoth - will look to take their already amazing season to the next level with what would be a huge upset against Village Christian (9-2), a No. 3 seed. Vasquez will play host to Village Christian at 7:30 Friday night at Quartz Hill High, because the Southern Section requires playoff games be played at facilities that seat at least 1,000, and the Mustangs' small Acton campus stadium does not have that capacity. ``We're looking to keep it going and I think we have a shot, a legitimate one,'' Vasquez coach Tim Evert e·vert v. Vasquez is led by quarterback Kyle Jensen, who runs a Hart High of Newhall-style spread offense to perfection Adv. 1. to perfection - in every detail; "the new house suited them to a T" just right, to a T, to the letter . He has completed 142 of 273 attempts for 2,080 yards and 21 touchdowns and rushed for 620 yards and 11 touchdowns. The Mustangs have shown a propensity for pulling off big upsets, including a 33-20 shocker shock·er n. One that startles, shocks, or horrifies, as a sensational story or novel. '' --Cold-field advantage: Home-field advantage could be huge for Vasquez, even if it's not on their own field. The good news for Mojave, which defeated Salesian of Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. 27-6 in its opening-round Div. XII playoff game, is that Ontario Christian, the defending section champion, is primarily a running team, and the Mustangs' greatest overall strength is their ability to defend against the run. The bad news for Mojave is that it hasn't seen a team that runs the ball quite like Ontario Christian. The Knights, who employ a Delaware Wing-T offense, have emerged as one of the section's most productive offenses, averaging 39.9 points in their past seven games (all victories). If its most recent performance was any indication, Mojave, which held Salesian to 33 rushing yards Friday, has the personnel with which to at least contain Ontario Christian's ground game. However, getting players in the right position is easier said than done, Mojave coach Larry Satterfield said. ``It's a pretty complicated offense, and to try to prepare for it in just a week is going to be a challenge,'' Satterfield said.
