We knew we had a size advantage, so we wanted to pound the ball inside.'' Senior wing Isaac Gordon scored 18 points to lead the Knights, while LMU-bound Terron Sutton added seven points, nine rebounds, and five blocked shots. The 6-foot-10 center plans to see a lot of the Gersten Pavilion over the next four years. ``It was cool to (win the title) here,'' Sutton said. ``I've won championships ever since I've been here, but it's a great feeling to go out on top.'' Renaissance Academy (23-5), which lost to Price 67-37 is last year's division final, missed 16 consecutive field goals spanning 12:55 of the second half. The Wildcats trailed just 26-16 by the end of the first half, but lacked the depth to keep up with the division powerhouse. ``We have a lot of young guys, so we're not as deep as Price,'' Renaissance Academy coach Sid Cooke said. ``Price is just a great team and they are very well coached. We're obviously disappointed, but this team will bounce back.'' By virtue of advancing to the division final, both teams will play in the 16-team state tournament, beginning Tuesday. Lynch believes his Knights can make a run at a state title as well. ``We'll play anybody,'' he said. But don't mistake his confidence for arrogance. ``I never could have foreseen that this program would be so good,'' Lynch said. ``I started coaching here with just eight kids and two cones. I was happy when they jumped.'' Kevin Connelly (818) 713-3607 kevin.connelly(at)dailynews.com |
