City's police chief, turned in a letter of resignation several weeks ago with his resignation effective today. ``He was an excellent board member. He was a good board representative of the people. He will be a hard one to replace,'' trustee Connie Biehl said. Superintendent Larry Phelps said Dickerson did not give a reason for his departure. ``He's been on there a long time. Sometimes that happens,'' Phelps said. Biehl said she believed Dickerson moved out of the district. Dickerson, who was re-elected last November, could not be reached for comment. The board decided at Tuesday's meeting to appoint a replacement to avoid the cost of an election, Phelps said. The position will be advertised and the district will seek interested applicants. No deadline for submitting applications has been set. Requirements will include being a registered voter VOTER. One entitled to a vote; an elector. and residing in the district. The board will interview candidates at a special meeting before making the appointment, Phelps said. Whoever is appointed to fill the seat will serve until the next board election, in 2006, and then would have to run for the office to fill the two years remaining on Dickerson's term.
