DISTRICT SELECTS SEARCH FIRM PALMDALE NEEDS SUPERINTENDENT.

Byline: KAREN MAESHIRO Staff Writer

PALMDALE -- Palmdale School District The Palmdale School District is a school district that serves a major part of the city of Palmdale, California (USA).

The Palmdale School District was first formed in 1888. Approximately 28,000 students are enrolled in the Palmdale School District.
trustees have approved spending a minimum of $22,000 to hire a Visalia firm to help the district look for a new superintendent.

Working with International Group Education Services, the district estimates it will take between five and six months to find a replacement for Jack Gyves, who retired at the end of June.

``As a board member, I felt comfortable that we were dealing with a firm that could tailor their search for our particular school district needs,'' trustee Sandy Corrales Corrales can refer to: People

The board voted 3-1 at last Tuesday's meeting to select the International Group as the superintendent search firm. The firm was one of two presented to the board.

Epstein said he liked the other search firm, Leadership Associates, whose main focus is finding superintendent candidates. International Group also works with underperforming schools, Epstein said.

``I think the group that we selected is too diverse. Can they pay enough attention to what we need?'' Epstein said. ``I have concerns because of their diversification, if they are going to put forth the effort needed to bring an outstanding superintendent to Palmdale.''

Hiring Leadership Associates would have cost $27,950. International Group's fees are $22,000 plus expenses not to exceed 10 percent.

It was usually the lowest rank that could be held by a European officer, most of whom joined the police at this rank.  Roger Gallizzi is serving as interim superintendent while the search takes place.

With one year left on his contract, Gyves, 69, announced June 14 that he was retiring. He had been with Palmdale since October 2003, when he was named interim superintendent. He took the permanent post the following January.
