Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  - The Hart school district will appeal to voters again in June, seeking approval of a $52 million bond measure to build new schools and renovate existing ones.

The measure is similar to one defeated in November despite winning an overwhelming majority. Measure A failed because it fell just short of the two-thirds vote needed for passage. There was no organized opposition at the time.

``If Proposition 26 goes through, obviously that would make our effort simpler,'' Lee said.

If approved, property owners would pay no more than about $17 a year per $100,000 of assessed value for 30 years.

The bond would finance construction of three high schools, a ``middle college'' program at College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. Money also would fund new classrooms at all existing campuses, technical upgrades, renovations and repairs.

``We've had a lot of supporters who have come to us and said they supported the issue but didn't vote for one reason or another. Those people feel bad because they could have made a difference,'' Lee said. ``They could make all the difference in June.''
