It was discovered in 1542 by Spanish explorer Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, and eventually became part of the Rancho El Conejo land grant by  schools, with district officials saying Friday they had received reports that supporters are claiming that local educators and the district endorse To sign a paper or document, thereby making it possible for the rights represented therein to pass to another individual. District officials are particularly concerned because the Nov. 4 ballot also includes a $97 million bond issue for school repairs.

Gross stated that the complaints center on telephone calls encouraging residents to vote to remove Zeanah.

``They have also said that the telephone campaign callers imply in their remarks that they are calling on behalf of a group of local educators. They are further indicating to us that these callers imply that they are members of the Conejo Valley Unified School District.''

Gross accused the Yes! Remove Elois Zeanah! campaign of making the calls. And while the group's spokesman said that voters are being called, he denied they are being told the district is endorsing their effort.

where this information is coming from. It's totally false,'' said Pete Turpel. ``These calls were not made from our telephone bank. These people are hired and reading off of a script. They stick to the script.''

Leaders of the effort to fight off the recall said they were surprised the telephone campaign included the Conejo Valley schools and hoped it might actually help Zeanah keep her council seat.

``I never believed it. I would hope that people would see that these people are stooping stoop 1

Parks, who also received several complaints, figured the intent of the calls was to get people who supported the school bond measure to also support the recall.

Turpel countered that the calls could have been ``a little political tactic to spoil spoil

Both sides also disputed the need for the district's statement.

``I think the school district can right this wrong. It's got to be clarified because they're being used by the recall people,'' Parks said.

``The school district is responding in the only way that they know how,'' Turpel said.

Gross did not return phone calls.
