``It's a big issue. The district's reputation is at stake,'' said board President Brett Nelson. ``It's important to have outside people come in and get answers for the public.''

Nelson also called a board meeting today to allow the public to ask questions regarding travel policies and other topics. The meeting will be at Nelson's restaurant, Steer N' Stein Stein , William Howard 1911-1980.

The meeting will be from 3 to 7 p.m.

Also, an accounting firm has been asked to expand its annual audit of the district's finances to include billings for trips.

Brown was appointed trustee in January 1999. Records released by the district indicate that Solcich and Brown went on at least five trips together since March 1999.

The district records did not specify the full cost of the travel, but estimates show the trips cost nearly $12,000.

Solcich declined to comment.

``I have done nothing wrong,'' Solcich had said previously.

Nelson, who is up for re-election Nov. 6, requested the inquiries. He said questions have been raised regarding Brown's travel with Solcich and whether he should have voted on her changes in job status, which raised her salary.

``The attorney is coming in and giving us guidance and giving a legal opinion if we violated any policies. And if we did, what they were and how to prevent them,'' Nelson said. ``We want to make sure no laws were violated when she went on trips.''

Nelson said Solcich worked for the district before Brown became a board member. ``The allegation The assertion, claim, declaration, or statement of a party to an action, setting out what he or she expects to prove.
