The Antelope Valley
, the Antelope Valley Union High School District The Antelope Valley Union High School District (A.V.U.H.S.D.) is located in the Antelope Valley area of California, in northern Los Angeles County.

The district includes eight public high schools, one trade school, and two continuation high schools in the cities of Palmdale

said. ``They seem to be giving us good forecasts for student increases. If we don't have a clear picture as to where they are going to be in the valley, it's hard to plan where schools should be located.''

The board voted last week to renew a contract with Davis Demographics at a cost of $25,700, which is $6,700 less than the previous contract price.

``It's just the valley is changing so rapidly with the homes that we are having. We have to build more schools,'' said Larry Freise, coordinator of attendance. ``(The consultant's) data is invaluable in selecting school sites.''

Freise said Davis Demographics helped the district locate the site for the district's eighth high school, planned in east Lancaster. Construction is expected to start early next year.

``Before we hired Davis, we were ready to build high school No. 8 in the west valley. Davis did an analysis and said you need to put it in east Lancaster,'' Freise said.

Davis also advised that the district build high school No. 9 in southeast Palmdale instead of the west valley, Freise said.

A total of 10,700 more homes are planned for the Antelope Valley, based on tract maps that have been turned in to the cities of Lancaster and Palmdale.

``It doesn't mean they've pulled permits. It gives us an indication what they are planning to do out there,'' Freise said.

Davis services will include tract map analysis, forecast of housing growth by location, maintenance of a seven-year student enrollment projection, modification of existing attendance boundaries, and recommended locations for high school no. 10, a district staff report said.

``As new housing continues to impact our district, current data is key in effective facility planning,'' the report said.

In May, district officials said they were expecting the district's enrollment of 21,400 to grow by 6,000 to 7,000 students within the next seven years, including 3,000 expected to arrive in the next two years.
