DISTRICT HIRES MANAGEMENT FIRM.

The board at Tuesday's meeting approved a contract with Colombo Construction. There is no set cost for the contract; instead the firm will be paid an hourly rate on an as-needed basis.

The hourly rate ranges from $200 an hour for the principal-in-charge and $175 an hour for the project facilitator to $40 an hour for clerical work, district records show.

Colombo will not do the actual building and school modernization projects but will oversee the work, Assistant Superintendent Assistant Superintendent, or Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), was a rank used by police forces in the British Empire. It was usually the lowest rank that could be held by a European officer, most of whom joined the police at this rank.  Roger Halberg said.

By having a construction management firm, the district is better able to manage change orders and control costs, since it provides an independent entity overseeing the work and looking out for the district's best interests, Halberg said.

The district is now working with the architects, residents and staffers to decide what kinds of programs the elementary school and high school should have and what kind of facilities will be needed, Halberg said.

Construction is expected to begin on the high school in about 18 months, Halberg said.

The district on its second try passed two tax measures in March that would pay for the construction and renovation of schools.

California City voters approved a tax to finance a $16 million bond measure to build the elementary school and high school in California City.

Voters throughout the school district also approved a districtwide five- year, $25.50-per-parcel tax to renovate campuses. Both measures required two-thirds majority approval.
