roughly $300,000 in additional funding to broaden the scope of the work.

Officials will propose that the district borrow money from a separate fund so that some electrical upgrades and work on the auditorium's control booth area can be completed at the same time as other improvements, said Lew White, coordinator of facilities for the district.

Waiting to do the projects separately ``would require them to put forth more district money than they had intended,'' White said.

In the current state budget, the Legislature set aside $350,000 to fund refurbishments to either the Hart High auditorium or the Newhall Elementary School elementary school: see school.  auditorium. White said who would be the recipient of that funding hasn't been resolved, but the district will push ahead with its plans anyway because it wants to get the auditorium open and the administration building modernized by next August.

The district received $285,000 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is the federal agency responsible for coordinating emergency planning, preparedness, risk reduction, response, and recovery. The agency works closely with state and local governments by funding emergency programs and providing technical  toward quake-repair costs, along with about $320,000 in community donations to install air conditioning air conditioning, mechanical process for controlling the humidity, temperature, cleanliness, and circulation of air in buildings and rooms. Indoor air is conditioned and regulated to maintain the temperature-humidity ratio that is most comfortable and healthful.  in the auditorium.

Other improvements to the 46-year-old hall will include installation of new lighting and carpeting, painting and replastering walls, reconstructing a ceiling, widening doorways and renovating restrooms to make them accessible to the handicapped, and reupholstering seat cushions.

District officials hope to reopen the auditorium as a better facility, ``rather than as it was before the earthquake,'' White said. ``The district has all along committed to putting the auditorium back to its original state of usefulness,'' he said.

The school district, meanwhile, hasn't resolved a lawsuit against its insurance company and broker for quake damage claims pertaining per·tain
