DISTRICT DEMOCRATS HONOR MAN AND WOMAN OF THE YEAR.

LANCASTER - Lancaster resident and labor organizer Roger Wagner Roger Wagner (January 16, 1914 - September 17, 1992) was a driving force in choral music, one of the giants who for five decades championed and refined the art and propelled it forth around the world. His musical and personal impact was profound.  was honored as Democrat of the Year for the 36th Assembly District at the FDR awards dinner held May 20 at the Universal Sheraton in Universal City.

In an event titled the Franklin D. and Eleanor Roosevelt Democratic Man and Woman of the Year, Wagner was honored for his years of political activism through his union, United Auto Workers The United Auto Workers (UAW), headquartered in Detroit, Michigan, officially the United Automobile, Aerospace & Agricultural Implement Workers of America International Union , and the Democratic Club of the High Desert. He has been a member of the club for over 12 years and has participated in such activities as voter registration Voter registration is the requirement in some democracies for citizens to check in with some central registry before being allowed to vote in elections. An effort to get people to register is known as a voter registration drive. ``Roger was recognized for his dedication to the Democratic Party and to labor unions. As a union organizer, he communicates with the workers about the importance of having a voice in their workplace so they will be treated with dignity and justice,'' said Robert Alvarado, chairman of the 36th Assembly District Democratic Party.

The event was presented by the Los Angeles County Democratic Party and honored 46 volunteers. Santa Clarita resident Joan Schloss was the female Democrat of the Year for the 36th Assembly District, which encompasses Lancaster, Palmdale, Acton, Santa Clarita and the tip of northern San Fernando Valley San Fernando Valley
