Middle school students in the Conejo Valley The Conejo Valley is a region spanning both Southeastern Ventura County and Northwest Los Angeles County in Southern California, United States. ``I think there was a feeling out there that there was a need for this,'' he said. ``We've had a really good response from seventh grade.''

About 60 seventh-graders had signed up by late last week and about 20 eighth-graders. Although registration deadlines have passed, school officials said students can be placed on waiting lists and enrolled if space is available.

Students can participate either in remedial classes to help them catch up or in accelerated classes, attending school from 7:30 to 11:45 a.m. at Sequoia sequoia (sĭkwoi`ə), name for the redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) and for the big tree, or giant sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum), both huge, coniferous evergreen trees of the bald cypress family, and for extinct related species.  Intermediate School. Fred Van Leuven, director of secondary education, said the new classes grew out of requests from middle school administrators.

``It's not really at any extra cost. We took a couple of sections from the elementary program and a couple of sections from the high school program,'' he said.

Before the expansion, Van Leuven said seventh- and eighth-graders could take high school level classes through the high school program, but there were not any geared specifically toward middle school skills.
