``I get here at 7 a.m. every morning,'' said Johnson, 62. ``I can't wait to get going (to start the day).''

In his role as administration and community affairs administrator, Johnson wears many hats, including district spokesman. He also is responsible for developing quarterly newsletters, information brochures and annual reports, conducting tours of facilities, writing grant proposals and negotiating between the district and its bargaining units A bargaining unit in labor relations is a group of employees with a clear and identifiable community of interests who are (under U.S. law) represented by a single labor union in collective bargaining and other dealings with management. .

``He's quite a package,'' said Larry Peterson, the park district's general manager. ``He's a dedicated, hard-working individual who has kept the best interest of the district in mind. He's a consistent performer.''

Among his biggest accomplishments are securing $7 million in grant monies for park acquisition and development. Historic Corriganville Park was acquired in 1988 and is used for film and television projects.

Last year, the park district enjoyed its hottest film year yet - garnering more than $54,000 in film revenue. Johnson served as film coordinator.

``I've known him all those 30 years,'' said board director Elaine Freeman. ``It's been my pleasure. He's done a lot for the community as well as the park district.

``He's been there as a steady contributor for all those years. I will miss him.''
