DISNEYLAND WILL DEEP-SIX FLEET OF YELLOW SUBMARINES.

One of Disneyland's oldest rides, the Submarine submarine, naval craft capable of operating for an extended period of time underwater. Submarines are almost always warships, although a few are used for scientific or business purposes (see also submersible).  Voyage, is headed for mothballs after the Labor Day Labor Day, holiday celebrated in the United States and Canada on the first Monday in September to honor the laborer. It was inaugurated by the Knights of Labor in 1882 and made a national holiday by the U.S. Congress in 1894.  weekend to make room for a new attraction that will debut in 2003, officials said Wednesday.

A final decision on a replacement is still months away, although engineers have put together preliminary designs, Disneyland spokesman Ray Gomez said.

The 52-foot-long submarines, repainted from a military gray to a bright yellow in the 1980s, were put into service on June 6, 1959.

Fowler and other top-ranking U.S. Navy officers attended the dedication ceremonies and compared them to the real thing, Gomez said.
