Major U.S. television network. It began when the expanding national radio network NBC split into the separate Red and Blue networks in 1928.
Network notified Fox last week of the decision, according to Fox executives. It also told Fox that ABC also may refuse to air ads for Fox's live-action family films during the 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday slot, which could impact ``Home Alone 3,'' scheduled for December release.

Fox, which previously had been allowed to advertise at will on ABC programs, said Disney claimed the decision was made so viewers wouldn't get the impression that Disney had produced the Fox movies.

Fox had wanted to advertise during the show, which will telecast Disney animated films and movies made for TV, because the audience is a natural target for its family films.

Disney and ABC had no comment on the developments, first reported in The Wall Street Journal on Thursday.

Since buying ABC last year, the Burbank-based entertainment giant has used the network to promote Disney products, but the effectiveness of such a strategy has been unclear.
