But Hasbro Inc., having successfully marketed ``Jurassic Park'' and ``Star Wars'' action figures, will take over toys and games related to future Disney films and develop new products based on Disney's theme parks.

``They recognized that our expertise is in marketing entertainment properties,'' said Wayne Charness, a senior vice president for Hasbro, based in Pawtucket, R.I. ``You're going to see Hasbro and our various companies making toys and games related to some of the great upcoming movies and TV shows Disney will come up with.''

in Disney's consumer products division dropped 48 percent to $59 million, dipping 11 percent in just the last quarter.

The company blamed declines in worldwide merchandise licensing and rising costs for advertising and retailing.

The licensing agreements announced Wednesday are aimed at turning that business around, said John Singh, spokesman for Disney's consumer products division.

``Instead of putting all our eggs in one basket, we will divide them where it makes sense and continue a very strong relationship with Mattel while developing a new relationship with Hasbro,'' Singh said.

Mattel first partnered with Disney in the 1950s as a sponsor of ``The Mickey Mouse Club.'' More recently, it was the media giant's lead toy licensee for all standard characters.

Until now, Mattel has made about 80 percent of Disney's toys, both classic and modern, and it will continue to make those classic characters as well as products for the infant and preschool market, where it is the leading brand in the world.

``Mattel is thrilled to be able to continue our licensing relationship with Disney, as Disney has been one of the cornerstones of the preschool line. The imagination and fun that Disney brings to children's entertainment is easily translated into engaging toys for children,'' said Neil Friedman, president of Fisher-Price Brands.

Disney has worked with Hasbro before on a few projects, such as products based on the studio's successful ``Toy Story'' movies and some games in Europe.

The first fruits of the multiyear licensing deal between Hasbro and Disney will hit store shelves next fall and be based on the Disney/Pixar animated feature ``Monsters, Inc.''

In addition to upcoming films, the corporate alliance allows Hasbro to develop toys based on Disney television productions and theme parks, as well as attractions in the Disney's theme parks based on the toymaker's classic games like Monopoly, Scrabble Scrabble

The two companies also plan to develop a 16,000-square-foot toy store A toy store, or toy shop, is a retail business specializing in the services of selling toys.
