DISNEY JOINS WITH CTC GROUP OF JEDDAH, SAUDI ARABIA, TO BRING DISNEY PUBLICATIONS AND MERCHANDISE TO THE GULF REGION

 PARIS and JEDDAH, Saudi Arabia, June 12 /PRNewswire/ -- In a press conference this evening in the Jeddah Intercontinental Hotel, The Walt Disney Co. has announced that Mickey Mouse and other famous Disney characters will soon be seen throughout Saudi Arabia and the entire Gulf Region of the Middle East in a wide variety of high- quality Disney consumer products. This is Disney's first licensing venture in Saudi Arabia.
 Disney Consumer Products International Inc. and the Jawa family of Saudi Arabia have entered into a joint venture, which has in turn appointed CTC Consumer Products, a division of the Jawa family's Contracting and Trading Co. Ltd. of Saudi Arabia (CTC Group), as the exclusive consumer products licensing entity for Disney in Saudi Arabia, the Gulf States, and certain neighboring countries. The Walt Disney Co. appoints CTC Consumer Products as sole exclusive agent for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. CTC Consumer Products, from its offices in Jeddah, will serve the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia initially and later the other Gulf States.
 CTC Consumer Products will license the use of Disney properties on books and magazines, character merchandise, children's music and in connection with tie-in promotions and retailer support.
 Said Dennis Hightower, president of Disney Consumer Products (Europe and Middle East) S.A.: "This is a wonderful moment for Disney. We are very excited about the prospects for Disney consumer goods in the Gulf Region, an important step in the further development of our Europe/Middle East business activities.

"The CTC Group, with its wide variety of business interests in the region, will add strength and wisdom to the venture, as close ties with local distributors and retailers are developed. It's a very good match, which enables us to better serve the needs of our customers."

 Prospects for the venture are promising. The economy of Saudi Arabia is one of the strongest in the world, the population is affluent, and a high percentage of the population is less than 15 years of age. Total population is expected to be 20 million by the year 2000.
 While Disney books and magazines have been published in the Arabic language for 20 years, primarily for sale in Egypt, there has never been a formal Disney licensing presence in Saudi Arabia until now.
 In the first year of the venture, CTC Consumer Products plans to launch a weekly Disney magazine in Arabic in cooperation with local publishers and will introduce Disney merchandise initially from established licensees in Europe and America. The first products -- Arabic and English language record products -- will be available in late summer.
 Disney will organize a product exhibition and a trade seminar to review the new venture's objectives with selected European licensees on June 19 in Paris. At that time, Disney will introduce licensees to key Saudi retailers and distributors to facilitate initial business contacts.
