DISNEY DIGITAL 3D TO DEBUT THIS YEAR.

Byline: Greg Hernandez Staff Writer

BURBANK - The Walt Disney Noun 1. Walt Disney - United States film maker who pioneered animated cartoons and created such characters as Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck; founded Disneyland (1901-1966)
Disney, Walter Elias Disney
Co., overshadowed creatively in the animation field in recent years by business partner Pixar Animation Studios, announced Monday that it will introduce a new 3D technology when its ``Chicken Little'' film is released in November.

The proprietary technology, called Disney Digital 3D and developed in collaboration with Dolby Laboratories “Dolby” redirects here. For other uses, see Dolby (disambiguation).

Chairman Dick Cook called Disney Digital 3D ``a truly groundbreaking technology that combines the latest innovations of science and art.''

``Walt Disney pioneered many technological breakthroughs and set an uncompromising goal for his studio to constantly push the envelop en·vel·op

to offer a superior movie-going experience,'' Cook said in a printed statement Monday.

While Disney has had tremendous box office success over the past decade by distributing such Pixar-created blockbusters as ``Finding Nemo,'' ``The Incredibles'' and ``Monsters Inc.,'' the studio has had a long dry spell in its own creation of major animated box office hits.

The lucrative distribution agreement with Pixar is due to end next year with the release of ``Cars,'' but the two companies recently began low-key discussions about possibly negotiating a new deal.

Box office analyst Robert Bucksbaum, president of Reel Source Inc., said it's not surprising that Disney is seeking to raise the bar in this era of eroding attendance at the nation's movie theaters.
