 Co. announced Friday that it expects its profits for the fourth quarter ending Sept. 30 to come in at 15 or 16 cents a share - well under Wall Street estimates of 21 cents a share and year-ago earnings of 19 cents a share.

Analysts have been cutting estimates for several months, most often citing weakness in Asian markets, and Disney stock has fallen 39 percent since peaking in early May.

Disney, which released the announcement after the market closed, blamed weakness in foreign markets for consumer products and home videos; declines in its movies and at its ABC television ABC Television may refer to:

 network; and start-up costs for new ventures such as its cruise line and DisneyQuest play parks. It said results will improve at theme parks and its ESPN ESPN Entertainment and Sports Programming Network  cable sports network.

Disney also said it will take a charge of 2 cents a share to cut operations in movies to reflect previously announced cuts in production of live-action films to 15 annually, and in its consumer products division, where it has ceased operation of the DisneyFest traveling attraction in Asia.
