Joan Pinder, IDEMA executive director, more than 350 companies are participating in DISKCON this year, a 27 percent increase over 1996, and over 780 display booths will be set up at the show-almost 40 percent more than 1996. A full schedule of technical sessions, highlighting the latest advances in data storage technologies is also in place, she added. "The hard disk drive market continues to grow dramatically as powerful desktop systems become more commonplace and as corporations shift over to high speed networked applications," Pinder said. "There exists the need for a conference where the different suppliers to this industry can see first hand the directions that the hard disk industry will be taking over the next 12 months. DISKCON gives them that opportunity." More than 8000 registered professionals will attend the DISKCON conference, she added.

This year IDEMA is once again sponsoring a charity golf tournament in conjunction with the show. The tournament will be held Monday, September 22, and benefits charities that provide computer learning opportunities to disadvantaged youth.
