"By achieving greater operational efficiencies in our business, we've maintained our track record of implementing one of the lowest price increases in the pay TV market," said Michael Schwimmer, vice president of Programming at EchoStar. "Our increases are not only smaller than those recently announced by cable companies, but they are also less than the price increases we've incurred from programmers."

Schwimmer pointed out that Dish Network's rate increase of $1 per month equated to an increase of only 3 percent on the company's most popular package. In comparison, many major cable companies have announced recent price increases of over 6 percent. At the same time, program providers, particularly sports programmers, have increased the carriage rates they charge EchoStar as much as 20 percent.
