DISEASE DETECTION INTERNATIONAL TO RESTATE FIRST QUARTER 1992 RESULTS ON CONSOLIDATION OF FHC CORP. AND MEXICO MANUFACTURING OPERATIONS

IRVINE, Calif., Sept. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Disease Detection International Inc., (OTC Bulletin Board: DDII) announced today the company will restate its first quarter 1993 financial statements. The company's president and chief executive officer H. Thad Morris announced the decision after consultation and review of unaudited results with the company's accounting firm Ernst and Young.
Morris stated, "While the restated figures will not significantly affect the company's balance sheet, accounting for the consolidation of DDI's 50 percent owned FHC Corp. and for transactions with DDI's subcontract manufacturer in Mexico will require various reallocations affecting the timing and recognition of certain revenues and expenses under generally accepted accounting principles. We will also revise downward our earlier revenue forecasts for 1993 due to certain orders being shifted from the third and fourth quarter to the fourth quarter 1993 and first quarter 1994."
Morris elaborated further, "Since the company's restructuring in late 1992, and the closing of its $3,000,000 private placement in June of this year, DDI has entered into a number of new business relationships, both domestic and international, as part of its strategic business plans. The company's holdings include 12 percent in Trinity Biotech plc. NASD (HIVSY), 17 percent in Dicor Technologies/Miragen, 50 percent in FHC Corp. and 49 percent in DDI do Brazil. Due to our improved financial position and these transactions, the company is addressing certain complex accounting considerations and is also interviewing to hire a chief financial officer.
"In views of both improved business prospects and our plan to seek additional financing to support further expansion, the company's management believed a review of the first six months activities and relevant accounting policies would be prudent prior to the release of interim financial results. This process has delayed the filing of second quarter financials and will necessitate restating previously announced first quarter results. We expect to complete this analysis and review with our auditors within the near future so that these results can be finalized and third quarter figures published in a timely manner."
