DISCONTINUED UNITS HURT SIMI VALLEY'S WHITTAKER.

The company said it lost nearly $122.5 million from the defense electronics unit it sold Sept. 30 and on its Xyplex Networks unit in Littleton, Mass., which makes remote access products that connect local area networks to wide area networks.

The company had announced during the fourth quarter that it also wants to sell Xyplex. Once sold, Whittaker will focus its energies on reducing debt and on its aerospace business, chief financial officer John K. Otto Otto, Austrian archduke
