Treats are fine, but Debbie Gustavson is among community volunteers who will patrol area streets on Halloween to keep a lid on the tricks and perhaps bandage bandage /ban·dage/ (ban´daj)

Disaster Response Team volunteers, trained to help in emergencies such as earthquakes, will act as extra eyes and ears for Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County sheriff's deputies on Oct. 31, Gustavson said. ``We're trained for things like search and rescue, but we're here for the community,'' Gustavson said. ``There doesn't have to be a disaster for us to help out.''

The team, created about 1-1/2 years ago in response to local disasters, is trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), emergency procedure used to treat victims of cardiac and respiratory arrest. CPR can be done in a hospital with drugs and special equipment or as a first-aid technique. , first aid and emergency aid. Some members, such as Gustavson, have attended special training sessions with police and fire crews.

The team members' emergency skills won't necessarily be needed on Halloween, but their familiarity with procedure will help officers on the street, said Los Angeles County sheriff's Lt. Gregg Sabalone, liaison for the city of Westlake Village.

``They're just very helpful volunteers,'' Sabalone said. ``We don't expect them to take action. But they can let us know if teen-agers are getting rambunctious.''

About 10 of the 30 team members have volunteered to work on Halloween, and the group is seeking other residents interested in learning about DRT DRT Dead right there Medtalk A macabre adjective referring to a Pt who has been clinical kaputt long enough to minimize the likelihood of resuscitation  or who just want to help out during trick or treating.

``Some will be on foot patrol, some will be in cars,'' Sabalone said. ``They may have their radios with them so they can communicate with each other.''

City and law enforcement officials plan to make Halloween even more safe in Westlake Village, Agoura Hills and Calabasas by having about a dozen extra deputies on duty, Lt. John O'Brien John O'Brien may refer to:

A state-of-the-art mobile command post also will be set up in a shopping center shopping center, a concentration of retail, service, and entertainment enterprises designed to serve the surrounding region. The modern shopping center differs from its antecedents—bazaars and marketplaces—in that the shops are usually amalgamated into  at Agoura Hills, and deputies will stay visible by patrolling on horses and bicycles, O'Brien said.

``It really comes down to safety for the children trick or treating,'' O'Brien said. ``It's no different than any other neighborhoods.''
