The Horse and Rider is an informal name given to the stars Mizar (ζ UMa) and Alcor (80 UMa) because of their close proximity in the sky.
 from the A1, A19 and main approach roads to the city.

BY RAIL: Newcastle central station is 15 minutes by taxi from Newcastle Racecourse and is also linked to the Metro system. Free buses run from Four Lane Ends and Regent Centre Metro Stations on race days from one hour before the first race and an hour after the last race.

BY METRO: From Newcastle city centre Haymarket, Monument or Newcastle Central Metro stations you can take the Metro, along the airport line to Regent Centre.

You will then need to take a bus from Regent Centre to Newcastle Racecourse.

BY BUS: Outside the Regent Centre at the bus stop straight in front of you, take the 42, 43, 44 or 45 services. Check boards for details.

Ask to be dropped off at The Gosforth Park Hotel which is beside the Racecourse.
