DINING BEAT : HAPPENING ON THE GLEN.

Things are happening at the top of the hill on Beverly Glen Boulevard Beverly Glen Boulevard is one of three major routes that connects West Los Angeles to the San Fernando Valley (the other two are the 405 Freeway and Sepulveda Boulevard ).

It starts off at Pico Boulevard in West Los Angeles.

The monarch in the Beverly Glen Shopping Center shopping center, a concentration of retail, service, and entertainment enterprises designed to serve the surrounding region. The modern shopping center differs from its antecedents—bazaars and marketplaces—in that the shops are usually amalgamated into  on Beverly Glen Circle has always been Adriano's, an alta cucina ristorante run by deep-voiced Adriano Rebora, a former Italian liner restaurant manager and maitre d'.

It isn't easy for the more formal, top-quality dining places with extra staffing and high overheads to keep up with those whose prices are low and who use much less expensive ingredients.

In fact, the center already had a pizza and pasta place with a Southwestern accent called Shane, Hidden in the Glen and Santo Pietro, a small pizzeria, with a mid- to low-end Italian food appeal.

But now Shane is shuttered, yet is due to reopen imminently and there is at least one potential buyer of Adriano's hovering in the background.

Also, Graziella Di Marco, a onetime Adriano's maitre d', has opened her own little Cafe Graziella, 2960 Beverly Glen Circle, Bel-Air, (310) 475-7404 in the same shopping center, where she serves pancakes and frittatas for breakfast, and Italian soups, (antipasti Antipasti can refer to:
  • in Italian cuisine, a starter course similar to Hors d'œuvre (italian plural of antipasto)

) appetizers, (insalate) salads, (panini Panini (pä`nēnē), fl. c.400 B.C., Indian grammarian. Bistro no more

Some of us were sorry to see the low-priced Bistro at Citrus disappear.

Chef-owner of the higher-priced Citrus, Michel Richard, explains why:

``It was just too hard to keep the two styles of food separated. For instance, one day a Bistro customer who had ordered the salmon with mushrooms mistakenly got the salmon with black Perigord truffles. He was quite happy to get this dish for $12. So now I have transformed the Bistro into a private banquet room that seats up to 70 guests. I'm very pleased with the way it has turned out.''

Citrus minus the Bistro is still at 6703 Melrose Ave., Hollywood.
