DINING BEAT : DINE IN NEW ENOTECA ROOM.

Byline: Larry Lipson

The most interesting aspect of the new Rocco, opening Friday on the former Adriano's site at 2930 Beverly Glen Circle, Bel-Air, is its enoteca.

An enoteca is a wine-tasting room, actually an Italian word for ``wine library.''

Owner Rocco Somazzi has announced he will have a full bar and stage for live musical performances, mostly jazz, in the enoteca portion of the restaurant.

More than 100 bottles priced from $18 to $120 will be offered, ``emphasizing bold and distinct California wines and some carefully selected Tuscan Sangiovese wines,'' the latter a tribute to Somazzi's heritage.

Numerous wines and sakes will be available by the glass, priced from $5 to $25. And in true Italian enoteca-style, two red wines will be served directly from wine barrels.

Tapas-style dishes ($6 each) on the enoteca menu prepared by chef Hiro Bairin will include tuna tataki, clams and mussels mariniere, spicy spring rolls and a daikon dai·kon

The enoteca seats 70, while the regular Rocco dining room seats 60.

Look for a mix of Italian, Japanese and Californian recipes on the dining room menu, with such intrigues as spaghetti alla Giapponese ($18) with calamari, green onions, nori no·ri
