Chef DiMaggio, who claims he's a distant cousin of the baseball Hall of Famer, has an Irvine-based company called Creative Culinary Design and founded a restaurant in Toronto called the Wet Paint Cafe.

This concept, he said, also being considered as a chain possibility, offers a 17th-century kitchen and presents artists on the premises creating works. The artists also paint on the tabletops - and patrons can purchase the tables. The proceeds are then divided between a charity and the artist, he said.

Chef Joe DiMaggio's, a quasi-self-service type eatery, will specialize in pizzettas, international wraps, salads and the like.

Eating for Earth Day

In addition to the upcoming St. Patrick's Day and Oscar night parties at restaurants, a number of the city's eateries will participate in the ``Dine Out for the Earth'' event on April 17. This means that participating restaurants will be donating 10 percent of their profits that day to the Green Corps and Pesticide Watch.
