DINING BEAT : CAJUN PRIDE GETS A BOOST.

All the deprived Cajun-Creole food fanciers that have felt the sting of the closing of the landmark Orleans last year have reason to rejoice.

Mary Atkinson, who owned Orleans, has joined forces with nationally renowned barbecue chef Rick Royce to unveil Royce's Cafe Orleans, a compact, casual restaurant at 10916 W. Pico Blvd. in West Los Angeles

This is the same location that previously purveyed Royce's familiar rib, chicken, tri-tip, chili and barbecued pork specialties and will continue to serve same.

But the new menu has jalapeno cheddar rolls, Cajun popcorn, jambalaya jam·ba·lay·a

Changing of guard

Also new and scheduled to debut Saturday is Celestino, replacing chef-restaurateur Celestino Drago's Pasadena version of Il Pastaio at 141 S. Lake Ave.

Drago continues to operate his Il Pastaio in Beverly Hills and his flagship Drago in Santa Monica. He is also readying the former Jackson's, 8908 Beverly Blvd., West Hollywood, to feature an expanded menu of his native Sicilian recipes, some of which are already favorites at Drago.

The name Celestino is not new on the local culinary scene. It was given to Drago's first restaurant (in Beverly Hills), which operated without him for a while following his departure and eventually changed its name after litigation An action brought in court to enforce a particular right. The act or process of bringing a lawsuit in and of itself; a judicial contest; any dispute.
