DINING BEAT\Honoring hard work.Byline: Larry Lipson The fourth year of HEROS HEROS Higher Education Relief Opportunities for Students (Act) - Hispanic Employees of Restaurants Outstanding Service - Awards has been announced. Though this project has the best of intentions, it brings one or two nagging questions to my mind. For example, the winner of the maitre d' award is a guy from the Sizzler siz·zler n. 1. One that sizzles. 2. Informal A very hot day. . This man may deserve an award as a manager or greeter or something else, but maitre d' at Sizzler? Give me a break. Before we move on to another category, remember the captain of waiters in those classy restaurants of yesteryear yes·ter·year n. 1. The year before the present year. 2. Time past; yore. yes ? He might be the one who made your crepes Suzette crêpes su·zette n. pl. crêpes su·zettes A dessert of crêpes warmed in an orange-butter sauce, often served with a flaming liqueur sauce. at tableside ta·ble·side n. The area beside or around a table, especially in a restaurant. adv. & adj. Made or prepared alongside a table: lamb that was carved tableside; a tableside recitation of the menu. . And he usually wore a tux. Most of today's less formal-style dining rooms do not appear to have anyone in the captain's role, especially restaurants like those whose "captains" were proclaimed winners - La Salsa and Tony Roma's Tony Roma's is a casual dining chain restaurant specializing in baby back ribs. The first location was established in 1972 in North Miami, Florida, by the eponymous founder, and today there are roughly 260 locations in 27 countries comprising 32 territories. . I have no qualms about any of the other categories and, certainly, all the winners should be congratulated even if their categories can be questioned. Here are the results, which will be presented March 24 at a food-and-wine-tasting event called "The Taste of California" at the Biltmore Hotel Biltmore Hotel is the name of a hotel chain created by hotel magnate John McEntee Bowman.
