DIMMY CARR; Comedian's heroin jibe slammed by tourist chief.

 has sparked fury by joking Scotland offers tourists "heroin and shortbread".

He wrote on his Twitter website: "I'm not employed by the Scottish Tourist Board but what about the slogan 'it's not just heroin & shortbread'."

Carr's cheeky gag was posted alongside a stunning photo he took of a Scottish beach on the morning of his gig in Inverness on Tuesday.

But tourism chiefs have rapped the comic whose Twitter page has around 148,000 148,000 followers.

James Lakie, of VisitScotland, said: "Jimmy Carr is a comedian who aims to shock.

"He should keep that kind of material for people who go to see his shows and not post it on networking sites.

"It does nothing but hinder the work we do.

"His commentsare irresponsible. I don't think anyone believes Scotland is just heroin and shortbread.

"Maybe he's watched Trainspotting too many times. Scotland has some of the best scenery and visitor attractions in the world and we expect tourist numbers to be increasing this year. Tourism brings in pounds 4.1billion to the Scottish economy every year. It is a fantastic tourist destination A tourist destination is a city, town or other area the economy of which is dependent to a significant extent on the revenues accruing from tourism.

The 8 Out Of 10 Cats telly star made the online comment during his 2008/09 Joke Technician tour around the UK. It appeared before his stint at Eden Court in Inverness.

He also posted a tweet about Aberdeen; ' s famous beach. Beside a photo of the sands, he wrote: "Hanging out by the beach. Yeah, pretty cool. it is in Aberdeen - but still."

Anyone in North Korea following my tweet. Tourism minister Jim Mather declined to comment but a Scottish Government spokeswoman said: "Scotland is famed for stunning scenery, friendly people and modern culture. That reality is enjoyed by millions each year."
