DIGITAL NAMES VINCENZO DAMIANI PRESIDENT OF EUROPEAN OPERATIONS

 MAYNARD, Mass., Jan. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Digital Equipment Corporation (NYSE: DEC) today announced the appointment of Vincenzo Damiani, 53, as corporate vice president and president of Digital's European Operations. Damiani will be responsible for maintaining Digital's strong position in Europe and securing revenue growth and profitability in the European marketplace. He will report to Edward Lucente, Digital's vice president of Worldwide Sales and Marketing.
 "Vincenzo is a recognized European industry leader and will be a key member of Digital's senior leadership team," said Lucente. "This announcement is an important step in the consolidation of a new management structure in Europe for Digital."
 Prior to joining Digital, Damiani held the positions of general manager of Marketing and Services for IBM Europe, as well as chairman, Market Management Committee; member, IBM Europe Executive Office Committee; and member, board of directors, IBM Europe S.A. Since joining IBM in 1964 as an attorney in Milan, Italy, he held a series of senior management positions in Europe and the U.S., including director of Industry Marketing, General Business Group; assistant general manager, IBM Europe; vice president, Personal Systems, IBM Europe; general manager, Nordic Countries; and general manager, Resources and Restructuring, IBM Europe.
