DIGITAL L.A.; A WEB SITE FOR AN E-MAIL MOVIE : I'M DREAMING OF A `WHITE' CD.

Byline: David Bloom David Bloom (May 22, 1963 – April 6, 2003) was an NBC journalist (co-anchor of Weekend Today and reporter) until his sudden death in 2003 at the age of 39. Early life

It's been called the biggest product placement in movie history, but you don't need to be on America Online See AOL.  to enjoy the great Web site for ``You've Got Mail The audio announcement heard millions of times per day by AOL users. The voice was recorded by Elwood "El" Edwards in 1989 at the suggestion of his wife Karen, who worked in customer service for Quantum Computer Services (before Quantum became AOL). .''

The Nora Ephron movie, starring Tom Hanks Noun 1. Tom Hanks - United States film actor (born in 1956)

and Meg Ryan, opens next week and is based on two people striking up an online romance, not realizing that they run rival bookstores on New York's Upper West Side. The movie's title refers, of course, to the audio that plays when AOL (A division of Time Warner, Inc., New York, NY, www.aol.com) The world's largest online information service with access to the Internet, e-mail, chat rooms and a variety of databases and services.  users get e-mail.

The site (www.youvegotmail.com) has, naturally, lots of Net-minded touches, including free Web space and e-mail from Fortune City (AOL? Who's that?); bulletin board discussions; and free desktop patterns, icons and Web postcards for Macintosh and Windows.

There's background info on cast and crew; audio clips from Ephron; even a tour of the Upper West Side. Another area has links to literacy groups and promises an interactive version of Kipling's ``How the Leopard Got His Spots.''

But the area that I, or at least the romantic in me, liked best was devoted to dozens of peoples' submissions of their own true Net romance stories, a subject that also occupies part of the bulletin board postings.

``It happened to me ... I'm gonna get married to this girl,'' wrote Plain Old Me. ``Yeah, it's nuts, but who cares ... He has been praised for his works relating to Chinese life and culture.  ... and the pond just got bigger.''

Tired of all those goofy Christmas music collections? Well, make your own goofy collection and curse no more this yuletide, at least about music.

Musicmaker.com has a special holiday music section of 400-plus tracks, including nine versions of ``White Christmas'' and 12 of ``Silent Night.'' Pick out your Xmas faves, and Musicmaker will put them on CD for you for between $10 and $20. Better late than never

Among the late-arriving games that may be worth a look for your family as you finish up holiday shopping:

Tomb Raider III, meaning Lara Croft will have yet another chance to loom large, or at least large-busted, in the hearts of adventure-loving PC gamers. Railroad Tycoon II is a classy PC strategy game about building a railroad empire in the last century. One of the most-awaited titles of the season - and worth it.

Star Wars Rogue Squadron lets you take on the bad ol' Galactic Empire's forces on the ground and in the air in your X-Wing, Y-Wing, A-Wing or V-Wing fighter, or on a snowspeeder. Pretty darned darned

For both PlayStation and N64.

Brave Fencer Musashi Brave Fencer Musashi (ブレイヴフェンサー武蔵伝   is yet another role-playing PlayStation adventure from SquareSoft - and quite entertaining. This one is more like an adventure game, given the substantial amount of fast-paced head-to-head fighting. The graphics are nicely done, and the story line is pretty good, though it somewhat spoon-feeds the hard stuff to you.

Tiny Toons Adventures: The Great Beanstalk is one of the few PlayStation games pitched directly for younger children, using the fun characters from Steven Spielberg's animated series. It feels more like a PC title, with lots of clicking, exploring and puzzles. But it's challenging for littler ones.
