DIGITAL F/X INTRODUCES NEXT GENERATION OF DIGITAL AUDIO WORKSTATIONS

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Jan. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Digital F/X, the award-winning manufacturer of digital audio and video systems, today introduced the WaveFrame 401, the new standard for disk-based editing in audio post-production. The WaveFrame 401 is the latest product introduction from the Audio Division of Digital F/X, and is being demonstrated this week at the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) tradeshow in Anaheim, Calif.
"We've incorporated four years of input from top professionals to create our first entry in the next generation of digital audio workstations," said Jim Mercs, director of engineering for the Audio Division. "With the popular Microsoft Windows interface and our innovative hardware design, the WaveFrame 401 is both powerful and easy to learn."
The WaveFrame 401 is a complete digital audio recording system which includes an eight-channel audio recorder with a built-in mixer and professional features such as VITC sync, digital I/O and real-time performance. The multi-tasking Windows environment allows the user to access the 401's recorder, editor and mixer simultaneously. Each adjustment made to the mixer is performed in realtime and with the highest degree of audio fidelity.
For the added complexity of audio-for-video projects, customers can add WaveFrame Editorial software. Using the machine control and assembly features of WaveFrame Editorial, edit decisions made during the video-editing process can be used to build first-generation master audio production tracks automatically from source machines.
"I've used WaveFrame equipment to produce sound for television, records and film. In recent projects, I've used the WaveFrame systems simultaneously as a musical instrument, a digital mixing console, a disk recorder and a sound effects device," said Rob Arbittier, programmer and synthesist for Stevie Wonder and co-founder of Noisy Neighbors Productions in Los Angeles. "WaveFrame technology is the most versatile digital audio workstation available and invaluable in my studio." Arbittier will be demonstrating the WaveFrame 401 at NAMM in the Digital F/X booth, no. 2730. Also demonstrating WaveFrame digital audio workstations will be Scott Gershin, sound effects designer and editor for such films as "JFK" and "Born on the Fourth of July."
The WaveFrame 401 includes eight-track recorder and editor, on-screen mixer, comprehensive sync facilities, eight-channel analog I/O, stereo digital I/O, harddrives, computer system and software. The eight-channel disk recorder operates much like a tape machine, with transport controls, punch-in recording and audio scrub.
The WaveFrame 401 retails for $14,995, and is currently shipping from Digital F/X. Digital F/X announced the acquisition of WaveFrame in September 1992, and continues to manufacture and market the entire WaveFrame line of products.
Based in Mountain View, Digital F/X Inc. manufactures and markets digital video and audio post-production systems for the professional and emerging
