DIGITAL EQUIPMENT NAMES RICHARD POULSEN TO HEAD WORLDWIDE CHANNELS

 MAYNARD, Mass., Sept. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Richard Poulsen, a 25-year veteran of Digital Equipment Corporation's sales and services organization, has been named vice president, Worldwide Channels, reporting to Edward E. Lucente, vice president, Worldwide Sales and Marketing.
 Poulsen, 58, currently serves as president of Digital Equipment Corporation Europe and formerly served as vice president in charge of Digital's General International Area (GIA).
 "Channels distribution is an important part of Digital's effort to broaden our product sales base and provide more customers the solutions they need to be successful, particularly solutions featuring our Alpha AXP technology. An effective worldwide channels strategy is a key element of our sales effort. Dick Poulsen's experience in world markets and knowledge of Digital's products and infrastructure will be a valuable asset in implementing our worldwide channels effort," Lucente said.
 Poulsen will be responsible for business partnerships that sell Digital's products around the world. However, the Personal Computer Business Unit will be responsible for distribution of its product lines. Poulsen will continue to serve as president of Digital Europe until his successor is named.
 Poulsen joined Digital in 1968 as Canadian Customer Services manager. He served in a number of services assignments in Canada and the U.S. and was promoted to vice president of Customer Services in 1981 and to the GIA post in 1985.
 He received his diploma in electronic technology in 1956 from Ryerson Institute of Technology (Toronto), and is a 1973 graduate of Carnegie Mellon University's Program for Executives. He is a director of Digital Equipment of Canada, Ltd., and chairman of Digital Equipment India, Ltd.
