The good scoring from the previous night at Somerset was sadly, in the main, absent as the fast-gating Rockets left too much work for the chasing Diamonds to do on a typically slick track which left Newcastle hunting in vain for grip to pass on. Newcastle opened their Hoddesdon account desperately slowly, allowing the Rockets to build up a large early lead, not helped when new boy Ren Bach was sent flying into and under the safety fence in heat four.
