DIAMOND-STAR MOTORS WINS AWARD

 DIAMOND-STAR MOTORS WINS AWARD
NORMAL, Ill., June 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Diamond-Star Motors (DSM) has

garnered yet another award for its Mitsubishi Eclipse sports coupe. The Chicago Athenaeum, a museum of architecture and design, has named DSM one of its 1992 "Good Design" honorees.
DSM's Eclipse is one of 47 products, ranging from telephones to bicycle equipment, being recognized for its exceptional design by the museum, a center for architecture, art and urban studies. A distinguished panel of educators and designers reviewed more than 200 submissions from Illinois manufacturers and industrial designers before selecting this year's winners. All entries had to be either designed and/or manufactured in the state.
"It is an honor for Diamond-Star to be recognized with this prestigious group of Illinois manufacturers," said DSM President and CEO Tsuneo Ohinouye. "We are delighted that a DSM product has been identified as a design leader in Illinois."
The Chicago Athenaeum restaged the "Good Design" program from the 1950s landmark exhibition in Chicago organized by the Museum of Modern Art. The original program introduced many state-of-the-art, modern projects and appliances for both the office and the home into the marketplace for the first time.
The "Good Design" award winners were announced at the Merchandise Mart in Chicago, Monday, June 8. A small exhibition of the winning products will be on display at the Allsteel Showroom in the Mart, June 8 through the end of July. In September, The Chicago Athenaeum will formally exhibit the 1992 award-winning designs at its museum. The exhibition runs through November.
The two-door, hatchback sports coupe has earned enthusiastic praise from many critics since it first went on sale in January 1989. In 1991 and 1992, Consumer Reports listed the Mitsubishi Eclipse as recommended best buys. The Eclipse also has made Motor Trend magazine's list of "Top Ten New Car Buys" for three straight years and Car & Driver magazine's "Ten Best Cars" list for four consecutive years -- and unprecedented feat for a vehicle in its market segment. The Plymouth Laser and Eagle Talon, also produced at DSM, share recognition by these publications as well.
