DIABETES TIMEBOMB.MORE than half a million people in Scotland have a condition which means they are more likely to develop diabetes. A report from Diabetes UK estimates that 620,000 people - 15 per cent of Scottish adults - have "prediabetes prediabetes /pre·di·a·be·tes/ (pre-di?ah-bet´ez) a state of latent impairment of carbohydrate metabolism in which the criteria for diabetes mellitus are not all satisfied. pre·di·a·be·tes n. People with prediabetes, also known as Impaired Glucose Regulation, have higher blood glucose levels than normal and are mostly obese or overweight.
