DIABETES ? EFFECTS OF DIABETESNormally, your body will excrete insulin to clear excess sugar out of your blood so that it can be used as cell fuel. If you develop type 2 diabetes, then your body is no longer able to metabolize sugar. The blood sugar stays high because insulin cannot move it into the cells, where it would normally be used as fuel. The fatigue comes when the cells cannot get the sugar for energy. Your cells then send signals to your brain that you need to eat sugary or starchy foods to give them the fuel that they need to function. So, you become hungry, eat more, sleep more, and make the problem worse. Normally, your body will excrete insulin to clear excess sugar out of your blood so that it can be used as cell fuel. Not only are we eating more high fat convenience foods and snacks than previously, we are also eating bigger portions. One in three Americans is obese, twice as many three decades ago. That is not surprising when the US's Centre For Disease Control reported in 2004 that adult American women are eating 335 more calories per day and adult American men 168 more calories per day than they did in 1971. Because type 2 diabetes is linked directly to one's lifestyle, improving a poor lifestyle particularly in respect of diet and exercise can bring about positive results in return for some modest changes of habit. So what can overweight people do to reduce their risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Proliferative retinopathy is considered an advanced form of no proliferative retinopathy. With proliferative retinopathy, the lack of blood supply being delivered to the tissues of the retina signals the eye to "grow" more blood vessels. However, these additional blood vessels have the same problems. The vessel walls are very weak and often cause more blood to leak into the eyeball. The more pressure that accumulates within the eye, the higher the risk for the optic nerve (nerve responsible for delivering images that are seen to the brain) to be pinched off. Without the optic nerve, our brain does not receive any signals about what we are looking at, resulting in a sense of blindness. Occasionally, if the increased pressure is caught quickly, the fluid can be drained and vision returned. The most important part of this diet if that if you strictly adhere to this diet then you will lose 30 to 40 pounds, reduce your blood sugar and lower your cholesterol. Glycemic index means how much the food item will raise your blood sugar - the higher the index the higher your blood sugar. You will want to choose food that has low glycemic index. The interesting part of this diet is that the cholesterol will also be lower as well because foods that have low index also have fiber. Fiber is known to lower cholesterol. You must read lower |
