SurroundView is the only tool on the market today capable of graphically displaying global and stack based application variables in real time, with support for multi-tasking and multi-processor applications. Using SurroundView, embedded developers can easily spot application misbehaviors, bottlenecks, performance issues and timing problems, thereby significantly reducing costly development time. With the addition of SurroundView to its popular SingleStep(TM) debugging environment and Diab C, C++, and Java(TM) compiling and Run-Time Analysis suite, DIAB-SDS now delivers an even more comprehensive, standard-setting tools solution optimized for embedded real-time development.

About SurroundView(TM)

SurroundView(TM) is an innovative and powerful tool for real-time debugging of embedded software systems. It provides a broad system-level live view of running applications by tracing their executions and displaying user selected application variables in a rich graphical environment, enabling a detailed understanding of the system's run-time behavior.

SurroundView is based on extremely efficient code instrumentation of the target application with Surround library calls. SurroundView is based on an agent/host architecture. The agent runs on the target as a low priority background task, providing reliable and efficient communication with the host. It is responsible for collecting data from the application's instrumentation points, then packing and sending the data to the host. The agent can also receive data from the host for depositing into designated application variables and also supports dynamic activation/deactivation of application instrumentation points.

The host receives data from the target via the agent, records the data to a history-file, analyzes the incoming data and continuously displays raw and processed data through a set of powerful visualization tools. Variables may be displayed in many graphical formats, such as XY charts, tables and structure views. Other graphic display options are also available.

SurroundView's debugging and system integration environment, combined with an optimized RTOS-specific agent, offers customers the ability to reduce time-to-market while developing reliable and powerful real-time embedded applications at the lowest possible cost.

Availability

SurroundView(TM) for pSOS+, SurroundView(TM) for OSE and SurroundView(TM) for Win32 will be available through the Diab-SDS global sales channel in Q4 1999. SurroundView will initially support Ethernet TCP/IP and serial target connections. SurroundView(TM) agent will work with all PowerPC and ARM microprocessors supported by pSOS+ and OSE real-time operating systems as well as Windows x86 targets, Windows NT and Windows 2000.
