DHL Opens New Denver Regional Sort Center; New Facility to Create Local Jobs, Boost Area Economy and Benefit DHL Customers.

, today announced the opening of a new Regional Sort Center in Denver, Colorado. The facility is one of seven new Regional Sort Centers to be added to the DHL network over the next two months as part of a $1.2 billion investment program launched by DHL in June 2004.

"The new DHL Regional Sort Center is good news for the Denver community and for DHL customers in the local area and across the country," said Fred Beljaars, Executive Vice President for Operations at DHL. "The new facility will bring jobs to the community and provide a boost to the area's economy. At the same time, the location of the new sort center in Denver will directly benefit DHL's customers in the region by expanding overnight delivery services in Colorado and parts of Wyoming, and by providing greater connectivity within DHL's domestic ground and air network."

DHL is investing $3 million in the Denver 74,800 square foot Regional Sort Center, which will immediately create 26 jobs in the local community. Other key facts about the new facility include:

--The facility, which will operate six days a week, has a sort capacity of 4,000 letter pieces per hour/3,500 parcels per hour

--The sort center will serve 13 DHL service stations in the region

Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper John Wright Hickenlooper (born February 7, 1952) is the Mayor of the City and County of Denver, Colorado. He was born in Narberth, Pennsylvania and is a graduate of Wesleyan University. , commenting on the announcement, said: "We welcome the new services and jobs DHL is providing in Denver and we look forward to working with them to grow this new regional center."

The Denver facility, along with the six other new DHL Regional Sort Centers that will be announced over the coming months, will provide DHL with a more robust network to meet the needs of its growing customer base. The additional sort centers will increase DHL's ground delivery product capacity by 60%, enhance network efficiency and improve service levels. Each of the new sort centers, including the Denver facility, is being strategically located to offer greater connectivity within DHL's pickup and delivery network, and support both ground and air services.

By the end of 2004, DHL's expanded ground network will include:

--19 Regional Sort Centers

--Over 7,950 truck runs per week

Beyond 2005, DHL plans to add five more regional sort facilities and to synchronize See synchronization.  all 24 facilities with networks in Canada and Mexico to provide one fully integrated North American network.
