DHL Headquarters to Be Located in South Florida; Names Senior Management Team.

PLANTATION, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 9, 2003

As part of its ongoing integration process following the completion of its acquisition of Airborne, DHL today announced its intention to move its headquarters functions to South Florida. The Company, which is currently operating out of two headquarters sites in Plantation, Florida, and Seattle, Washington, had previously announced its intention to consolidate headquarters and expects the process to take place over the next 12-15 months.

The operations impacted in Seattle include central headquarters functions, including human resources, marketing, public relations and areas of finance and operations support.

Chief Executive Officer of DHL John Fellows said, "It is clear that we cannot operate from two headquarters on opposite sides of the country over the long-term. After careful consideration, we have determined that, because of the pan-regional responsibilities of the headquarters, the optimal location for our headquarters is South Florida."

The Company also announced that, as part of a company-wide initiative to integrate DHL's IT systems into three regional platforms worldwide, the Seattle-based technology group will be transferred to Scottsdale, Arizona.

Fellows continued, "There will be no immediate impact on staffing levels in Seattle. We are still in the process of finalizing detailed staffing arrangements and integration plans, but Seattle clearly represents a large pool of employees with great talent and significant experience, and we expect that many employees will be offered the opportunity to relocate."

The Company also said that it was still in the process of determining its long-term plans for other Seattle-based operations, which include a number of functions, such as billing processing, revenue collection and claims processing. It is expected that a determination on these issues will be reached by the first quarter of '04. The Company's Seattle-based sales and pick-up and delivery operations will not be impacted by these changes.

DHL, which has offices in Plantation, Florida, is undertaking a comprehensive review of options for meeting its current and future space requirements before determining its final location.

"We look forward to working with Broward, Dade, and Palm Beach counties as we seek to determine the exact location of our headquarters."

Separately, the Company also announced the appointment of its senior management team. Commenting on the appointments, Mr. Fellows said, "I am confident that our new management team can deliver on the promise of the DHL/Airborne transaction and forge a new future for DHL in the U.S."

Dick Bostdorff, having led the integration efforts for several large-scale acquisitions and mergers, most recently when SBC acquired Pacific Bell, brings a wealth of expertise as we seek to complete the integration process swiftly and seamlessly. Scott Northcutt is a seasoned Human Resources executive with extensive integration and executive development experience in multicultural environments like DHL's. These three well-respected executives add significantly to DHL's firepower as we ramp up our presence in the U.S. market, and we feel very fortunate to have them on board."

DHL's newly appointed senior management team is as follows:

-- Richard Metzler has been named Executive Vice President of

Marketing for the Americas. Mr. Metzler joins DHL from APL 

Logistics, a $1 billion third party logistics company, where

he served as Chief Executive Officer. Previously, Mr. Metzler

held senior marketing positions at FedEx and GE Capital. Mr.

Metzler will oversee all of the company's marketing activities

in North and South America, including advertising, customer

retention and market research.

-- Richard Bostdorff has been appointed Senior Vice President of

Integration. Formerly Chief Operating Officer of Nevada Bell,

a subsidiary of SBC, Mr. Bostdorff led the integration efforts

for SBC when Pac Bell was acquired and has been involved in

numerous other integration efforts throughout his career. Mr.

Bostdorff will be leading a team of approximately 170

employees committed full-time to the company's integration

efforts.

-- Scott Northcutt has been named Executive Vice President of

Human Resources. Formerly Executive Vice President of Human

Resources at Fleming Companies, a company with $18 billion in

revenue, and a Senior HR executive at Wal-Mart, Mr. Northcutt

has extensive experience in integration and executive

development. Mr. Northcutt will oversee all of DHL's HR

functions.

-- David Anderson has been appointed General Counsel. Mr.

Anderson, previously General Counsel for Airborne, will head

up DHL's legal department and advise on the integration

process.

-- Steve Bandrowczak has been named Chief Information Officer.

Mr. Bandrowczak, who previously served as CIO of DHL, will be

responsible for overseeing all IT initiatives for the Americas

Region, including management of the Information Services group

at DHL's Americas Information Services Center in Scottsdale,

Arizona.

-- Fred Beljaars has been appointed Executive Vice President of

Operations. Mr. Beljaars, who previously served as the Senior

Vice President of Operations for DHL in the U.S., will oversee

all aspects of field operations and network planning for the

Americas.

-- Randy Clark has been named Executive Vice President of Sales.

Mr. Clark was previously Senior Vice President of Marketing &

Sales and Customer Relations for DHL Americas. Mr. Clark will

be responsible for the combined U.S. Sales organization,

including National Accounts and Field Sales.

-- Richard Corrado has been appointed Executive Vice President of

Business Development, a newly created position to support the

sales and marketing functions. Previously Senior Vice

President of Marketing for Airborne, Mr. Corrado will be

responsible for overseeing pricing, bid processes, customer

service and customer technology, eCommerce and telesales.

-- Douglas Turner has been named Senior Vice President of

Corporate Services. Mr. Turner was previously in charge of

DHL's strategic planning efforts. As SVP of Corporate

Services, he will be responsible for the oversight of Billing

& Collections, Procurement, Real Estate, Mergers &

Acquisitions, costing activities and strategic planning.

-- Mary Wood has been named Executive Vice President and Chief

Financial Officer. Ms. Wood, who previously served as CFO for

DHL Americas, has an extensive public accounting background

and will spearhead DHL's finance department, overseeing

creation of yearly budgets and reviewing the financial

processes of DHL, Airborne and Danzas.
