DHL Expands Moscow Operations.

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 26, 1995--As part of a $10 million investment, DHL International, Ltd. has expanded its operations in Moscow to accommodate the international air express carrier's 100 percent growth rate in the former Soviet Union.

The expansion includes a gateway facility at Sheremeteyvo International Airport, a new DHL-dedicated flight out of Moscow, an increase of shipment value limitations and a new country headquarters office.

The gateway includes a comprehensive shipment processing facility and enables DHL to provide fast and secure customs clearance on site with DHL staff who operate as licensed customs brokers. With Russian Customs officials also on site and a direct link to their computer system, DHL can provide 24-hour customs clearance.

On November 1, DHL will begin regular service of a daily flight between Moscow and Copenhagen with a stop in Helsinki. The flight, an Anatov-26, has a lift capacity of four tons and will improve the air express carrier's transit times, offering one-day service between Moscow and certain European cities.

Shipment value limitations between the United States and Moscow, which had previously been set as low as $50 for dutiable goods, have been increased to $25,000. This increase for consignments that have a commercial value ill allow exporters the flexibility and security of using DHL to move high value shipments and inventory. DHL continues to have unlimited shipment value restrictions between the U.S. and other areas of the former Soviet Union.

Personnel from the DHL worldwide network handle shipments their entire journey through the Russian Federation, enabling DHL to offer superior customer response and standards that meet DHL's tough global requirements. By hiring and training local personnel, DHL operates as a "local" air express courier in the former Soviet Union with the international standards of excellence of DHL Worldwide Express.
