DHL Breaks Ground on New Service Center Facility in Salt Lake City; $4.3 Million Investment at Salt Lake City International Airport to Enable Growth, Enhance Services for DHL Customers.

PLANTATION, Fla. -- DHL, the world's leading global express delivery and logistics company, today announced plans to expand its operations in Salt Lake City and construct a new service center facility at the Salt Lake City International Airport. The $4.3 Million Investment includes construction of a 62,000-sq.-ft facility at the airport to serve Salt Lake City and surrounding areas for pickup, delivery and sorting operations.

DHL currently has a "pass-through" ramp operation at the airport, where packages are off-loaded from its dedicated aircraft and shuttled to its existing service center in West Valley City, Utah. Construction started this month on a larger service center that will consolidate both facilities, strategically located at the airport, which will result in earlier delivery times and later drop off cut-off times for local customers.

"By expanding the size of our current service center, DHL will be positioned to accommodate a decade of growth in the Salt Lake City area," said Michael Epeneter, Senior Vice President of Operations at DHL. The new state-of-the-art facility will handle a wide variety of shipments - including domestic and international parcels as well as palletized and container freight - and initially employ 142 DHL employees and associates when fully operational on August 1, 2006.

Additional key facts about today's announcement include:

--Construction of the Salt Lake City facility begins this month. The facility will be fully operational on August 1, 2006 and will operate from 5:00 AM until 10:00 PM Monday - Friday, and from 5:00 AM until 2:00 PM on Saturday.

--The new facility will cover 62,000 square feet, which includes 5,690 square feet of office space.

--The new facility will accommodate larger "bread-style" trucks, 23 more load positions than the current facility, as well as A-container handling.

--DHL's total investment in the new facility is approximately $4.3 Million, which includes a 10-year lease commitment, construction of the new facility, and capital improvements (furniture, conveyors, warehouse and dock equipment).

--DHL will also be installing a new phone system with expanded line capabilities to enhance the level of customer service

--The new facility will be able to process approximately 5,000 packages per hour.

--The location of the new service center is 3975 W 1580 North Street, Salt Lake City, Utah 

The Salt Lake City facility is one of many initiatives DHL has undertaken to improve US network efficiencies, cost containment and connectivity system-wide. Earlier this month, DHL announced plans to build its largest U.S. service center facility in New York City, New York. In 2004, DHL Express announced a $1.2 billion network investment program in the U.S. market which has resulted in a newly expanded primary air and ground hub in Wilmington, Ohio, seven new Regional Sort Centers, and a recently completed West Coast distribution facility.
